So with the help of several folks who contributed to my moped army
forum thread posted here, I was finally able to open up my ZA50.
The technique I used was to use a flat punch to strike on one of the
top tabs near the rear engine mounts to start a small gap. I then
used a thin flexible taper's knife to slide between the halves.
I worked my way around the case, bending and twisting the knife
to eventually pop the case halves apart. Some corrosion on the
2 dowels were causing the engine halves to stick.
Though it's mostly intact, I plan on replacing this thin
paper gasket with one made of Teflon. I'll post about this
if I am successful.
Here is the stator side of the ZA50. The drive shaft gear
is in great shape.
Crankshaft and clutch side bearing, excellent shape. I don't
think I will be replacing this.
Same with the stator side crankshaft bearing. There is a
little corrosion on the crank, but nothing that should cause
any problems. It's just from sitting and not running for so
long.
in there that may have destroyed my Polini kit. Now I'll be able
case match this sucker and be confident that nothing inside it will
creep into my new piston and cylinder.
I'll have to smooth some of this out as well.
It should be a productive Thanksgiving visit home for me
this week. Turkey, stuffing, grinding and buffing...
